Sustainability and Climate Plan
Our Sustainability and Climate Action Plan reflects who we are as a school community. Guided by our values of love, courage, truth, and joy, we believe that 'letting our light shine' includes caring for God’s creation and acting responsibly for the future.
Through practical steps, education, and community involvement, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and inspire positive change.
Together, we can create a school environment that reflects care, respect, and supports creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

What is Climate Change?
Climate change is defined as:
A change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th Century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.
The Earth’s climate is influenced by:
- Greenhouse gases from human activity
- Deforestation, with more than half the world’s surface ploughed or paved
- Ozone changes trapping heat closer to the Earth’s surface
- Air pollution, which alters atmospheric balance
The challenge of climate change is formidable. For children and young people to meet it with determination, and not with despair, we must offer them not just truth, but also hope. Learners need to know the truth about climate change – through knowledge-rich education. They must also be given the hope that they can be agents of change, through hands-on activity and, as they progress, through guidance and programmes allowing them to pursue a green career pathway in their chosen field. What can we do?
The DfE requests all schools to create a Sustainability and Climate Action Plan. At Park Street, we embrace this responsibility wholeheartedly. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint as we work towards a more sustainable future, while equipping our children with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to care for God’s creation and thrive in a greener world.
Through our plan, pupils will:
- Spend time in nature and learn to appreciate its beauty and importance
- Take an active role in improving their local environment
- Understand the health and wellbeing benefits of green spaces
- See sustainability embedded in our school buildings, daily routines, and curriculum
From EYFS to Year 6, every child will develop a deep understanding of sustainability and climate change, turning learning into meaningful action and solutions that make a real difference.
Together, we are shaping a future where our light shines through care, responsibility, and hope for the world around us.
