Year 3 - Elm Class

Welcome to Year 3!

Highlight of the week 6/10/25: This term, Year 3 pupils combined their learning in history and art by exploring British wildlife through charcoal drawing, inspired by their Stone Age topic. They began by using geometric shapes to sketch animals such as foxes, owls, and hedgehogs—just as early humans might have used simple forms to depict animals in cave art. Once confident with their designs, they scaled up their drawings, carefully maintaining the correct proportions to create larger, striking pieces. The activity encouraged creativity, precision, and a deeper appreciation for native animals and prehistoric art techniques.

Highlight of the week 22/09/25: Year 3 have been having a fantastic time learning to play the recorder this term! They've really enjoyed exploring a brand-new instrument and have worked hard to learn new notes and rhythms. It’s been especially exciting for them to play alongside Year 4, who are continuing their keyboard learning journey, creating a lovely musical partnership. The children are full of enthusiasm and can’t wait to show their families all the progress they've made in the upcoming sharing assembly — it’s going to be a proud moment for everyone!

Highlight of the week 8/09/25: What a fabulous first forest school session Elm class have had! We travelled back in time to the Stone Age, where we developed our tracking skills, built shelters to protect us from predators, created our very own cave paintings and learnt to use fire steels to make a spark. Despite a very wet session, we had so much fun launching our topic. We can't wait for the next one!
