Art
Discover how Art comes to life at Park Street – how we spark curiosity, build confidence and create engaging learning experiences that help children develop artistic skills and a love of learning enabling them to flourish.
INTENT
At Park Street, we believe art is essential in nurturing creativity, self-expression and confidence. Our art curriculum is thoughtfully designed to inspire pupils, spark curiosity and provide rich opportunities to explore ideas, techniques and a wide range of materials. We ensure that all children develop their artistic skills and knowledge progressively, while also learning to appreciate a diverse range of artists, cultures and art forms. Through art at Park Street, pupils are encouraged to take creative risks, celebrate their individuality and develop a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of the arts.
IMPLEMENTATION
Art is taught through carefully sequenced units that build skills and knowledge over time, ensuring clear progression across year groups. Lessons focus on developing drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed-media techniques, alongside opportunities to explore colour, texture, pattern and form. Pupils study a range of artists and styles, using these as inspiration for their own work, while being taught key vocabulary and techniques explicitly. Practical exploration, discussion and reflection are central to our approach, allowing children to evaluate their own work and that of others in a supportive and inclusive environment.
