PE
Discover how PE comes to life at Park Street - how we inspire confidence, encourage active lifestyles and create engaging experiences that help children develop physical skills, teamwork and a love of being active so every child can flourish.

INTENT
At Park Street, our aim is to inspire all children to enjoy being active, develop physical confidence and understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. We want pupils to experience a broad range of sports and physical activities so they can discover their strengths, build resilience and develop a lifelong love of movement.
Our curriculum aims to develop fundamental skills such as agility, balance and coordination, alongside teamwork, communication and fair play. We want children to feel confident taking part in physical activity, whether in lessons, clubs or competitions, and to recognise the positive impact that being active has on their physical and mental wellbeing.
We also aim to nurture ambition and aspiration. Through opportunities to take part in inter‑school and inter‑county competitions, pupils learn to challenge themselves, celebrate success and show determination and sportsmanship.
Ultimately, we want every child to flourish through PE - becoming confident movers, enthusiastic participants and active, healthy young people.
IMPLEMENTATION
PE is taught through a well‑structured and progressive curriculum supported by Complete PE, which provides high‑quality planning, clear skill progression and engaging activities. Lessons build on prior learning and help children develop competence in a wide range of physical skills, sports and movement patterns.
Across the school, pupils take part in activities that develop agility, balance, coordination, fitness and teamwork. They experience a variety of sports, including invasion games, dance, gymnastics, athletics, net and wall games, and outdoor and adventurous activities. Vocabulary is taught explicitly so children can talk confidently about skills, tactics and performance.
Competitive sport is an important part of our offer. Pupils have opportunities to represent the school in inter‑school and inter‑county competitions, festivals and events. These experiences help children develop resilience, teamwork, determination and pride in their achievements.
We also promote physical activity beyond PE lessons. Our playgrounds and large outdoor spaces encourage children to stay active during play and lunchtime through equipment, games and structured activities. This helps pupils develop healthy habits and ensures that physical activity is a valued part of everyday school life.
Clubs, enrichment opportunities and whole‑school events further enhance the curriculum, giving children the chance to try new sports, develop their skills and enjoy being active in different ways.
Our approach ensures that all pupils experience a broad, inclusive and motivating PE curriculum that supports their physical development, wellbeing and confidence.
