Curriculum

At Park Street, the curriculum is underpinned by our school vision of enabling children to FLOURISH.  We approach learning in exciting, enriching and creative ways, in order to engage, inspire and enthuse our children. This develops the inquiring ‘minds of tomorrow’ into forward-thinking, problem-solving, understanding and confident potential leaders. The Park Street curriculum reflects not only the National Curriculum but areas we believe fit the school's context and our ambitions for our children.  Central to our curriculum is the personal development of every child in our school.

Our approach to the curriculum builds in spaced retrieval practice, formative low-stakes testing and plenty of repeated practice for automaticity and fluency. Key knowledge, skills and vocabulary are revisited, and extended, each year as a child completes their learning journey through the school. Our aim is for pupils to have requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for the next stage of their education.

Our curriculum enables us to provide challenging, varied and meaningful learning experiences for all pupils. An excellent range of educational visits, clubs and special events also help to bring learning alive.

The curriculum is organised into themes per year group.  Each topic is launched at the start of term with an unusual experience which stimulates and motivates pupils’ interest.  We also begin each topic with a ‘big’ enquiry question to broaden children’s thinking skills.  This subsequently leads to great progress being made across the unit.

We work closely in partnership with parents and carers to deliver our curriculum intent and to ensure that all children achieve the best outcomes possible.
